
INDIO, CA (April 3, 2026) – Indio City Manager Bryan Montgomery has announced that he will be retiring this summer. Following a well-earned period of travel and time with family, Montgomery and his wife will begin serving as missionaries in Latin America for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Montgomery has served as Indio’s City Manager since May 2021. During his tenure, the City of Indio has experienced a period of remarkable growth, renewal and significant expansion. His leadership, marked by immense dedication and professional distinction, has helped propel Indio to the forefront, earning recent honors and recognition, including Fodor’s Travel 2026 “Go List,” “Top 25 Most Livable Small Cities” in the nation, and many others.
“Bryan’s leadership has been instrumental in shaping the Indio we see today,” said Mayor Elaine Holmes. “His commitment to public service, strategic vision, and steady and progressive guidance have left a lasting impact on our organization and community – he has led what has truly been a renaissance for Indio. While we will greatly miss his leadership, we are proud to support him as he begins this meaningful new chapter.”
With the guidance and strategic planning of City Council, Montgomery has played a key role in advancing numerous transformative projects, including but not limited to:
- Downtown Indio Revitalization, including the development of Center Stage
- New Indio Library
- New Public Safety Campus
- City of Indio rebranding
- New City Hall and Civic Center Campus
- The Lights at Indio Golf Course New Clubhouse (Opening soon)
- Indio Sports Park (Opening in May)
- Indio Lindo, the City’s Beautification Program
- Strengthening the City’s fiscal position and capital improvement project funding
“It has been a privilege to serve as Indio’s City Manager, and I am truly grateful for the trust and support I have received throughout my tenure,” said Bryan Montgomery. “I recently completed my 33rd year in local government, and it has been a fun, fast-paced, and deeply rewarding career. Serving the Indio community has been a highlight, and Team Indio has accomplished so much over the past five years, and I am confident that the best is yet to come!”
At the City Council meeting on April 15, 2026, next steps will be discussed to ensure a smooth leadership transition while maintaining the City’s strong momentum.
